Urban Core Partnerships
ASU's Teach For America Partnership
In Arizona, Teach For America and ASU’s College of Teacher Education and Leadership have joined forces to address our most pressing educational needs. The partnership combines ASU’s resources and expertise with Teach For America to positively impact the education of Arizona’s neediest children. The collaboration furthers ASU’s goal of connecting with our community and also establishes ASU as the lead higher education partner of Teach For America. ASU and Teach For America partner in four key areas:
The mission of Teach For America is to enlist our nation's most promising future leaders in a movement to eliminate educational inequality. Teach For America accomplishes this by building a diverse, highly selective national corps of outstanding recent college graduates in all academic areas who commit at least two years to teach in our nation's lowest-income communities. Teach For America alumni become lifelong leaders for expanding educational opportunity and work within every professional sector to effect broader change.

Phoenix Teaching Fellows
Beginning in Fall 2008, the College of Teacher Education & Leadership partnered with Phoenix Teaching Fellows. Participants in the program assume teaching responsibilities in urban school districts. Simultaneously, the Fellows have the opportunity to enroll in the Induction, Masters and Certification program tailored specifically to their unique teaching experience.
Fellows take classes in the College of Teacher Education & Leadership over 2 years while teaching in Phoenix schools. Students completing the program earn a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, Secondary Education, or Special Education and are eligible for an Arizona teaching certificate. The curriculum and supervision of this program are tailored to meet the needs of first and second year teachers and focus on best practices and innovative teaching strategies.
The goal of the Phoenix Teaching Fellows partnership is to recruit outstanding college graduates from various academic majors for careers in education while maximizing ongoing engagement in education.
